Using Tumblr and dlvr.it to curate content

Now a days, when more and more content appear out there, it is more and more difficult to follow the important and interesting content that appears on the internet every day.

A lot of blogs appear and disappear in a daily basis, and sites like tuxmachines in the case of Linux are great to find good content.

But, can you create your own curated site? The answer is yes, and here is how to do it.

Tumblr

First thing you need is a place to publish your curated content, so create a tumblr page for this goal, it is easy to do it, and will not be covered here.

dlvr.it

dlvr.it is a site that let’s you grab one or more RSS feeds and then publish its content to places like Twitter, Facebook, Google Buzz, LinkedIn and others, one of those others is Tumblr, so you can grab some RSS or Atom Feeds and send its contents to a Tumblr site, this way Tumblr users may get the latest news or posts in the niche they are interested in.

A good thing about dlvr.it is that it lets you filter the content, so if you add a site like mashable, you do not need to share all the posts that appear there, you may filter only the post that talks about google, if that is what you want.

Caveat reader

One thing you should consider is the copy rights of the content you are republishing, be sure to add a link back, and of course do not publish the full content, just Title, some excerpt if possible and a link to the full article in its original site.

Nokia employees protest against Microsoft's Windows mobile adoption by Nokia

Up to 1,000 Nokia employees in Finland walked out on the job yesterday, following the news that Nokia’s future would be based on integrating its products with Microsoft services and abandoning most of its own technology. The walkouts either simply downed tools and walked away or took a day’s worth of “flex time.”

I thinkg that Nokia was not able to continue with Symbian, just yesterday I have switched my E72 for an Xperia mini pro. Yes the E72 was easier to use, easier to type on it, better to make calls, etc. but having such a great hardware and not all the software I can find for my iPod or an Android phone decided me to switch.

Now, I thing Windows is not the best option, I just hope they might do the same that Sony Ericsson is doing, have some models with Windows and others with Android.

That way the user may choose the one that best fits his needs.

One way to choose if you are looking for a corporate phone is:

• If you have Exchange in your office, you may be better with a Windows phone
• If your office is using Google Apps, then you will be better with an Android phone

Of course that is just a simple way to choose but is a start, then you may think in other things.

In the meantime:

Many of the protesters work on the Symbian software so their jobs will be in jeopardy as Nokia begins to implement Windows Phone 7 on its handsets. Their future is not at all clear after today’s news-broad strokes have been painted but much of the logistics have yet to be revealed. Nokia will not work exclusively with the Windows Phone 7 operating system (and they will be customizing it) so jobs will be preserved but Symbian will no longer play the prominent role it once did at the company so job loss is inevitable.

Nokia’s employees are afraid about loosing their jobs.

I’ve read somewhere, that if Nokia might turn to Android, they will not be able to compete agains the asian manufactures, like Samsung or HTC, but to me one of the best pieces of hardware I’ve ever used is the E71 and E72, easy to use, great termination, incredible battery duration (something Samsung, HTC or even Apple can’t say).

So I would have loved to have an E72 powered by a customized version of Android.

Jogging, lifting weights and low carbing

I've been for two or three weeks, following a low carb diet jogging 3 days a week and lifting weighs the other 3 days of the week, resting one day. I'm loosing a lot of body fat and hopefully will keep my muscle mass, let's see what results I get in three more weeks.
